President Biden’s upcoming announcement on an executive order concerning undocumented immigrants (June 14, 2024)
According to last night’s PBS NewsHour report, President Biden is set to announce measures aimed at protecting certain undocumented immigrants who entered the United States without visas or proper authority.
EA Law, LLC hopes to keep our clients informed about significant legal developments that may impact their lives. The Biden Administration has not released the full details of the proposed executive order, which they expect to announce on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024.
However, preliminary reports from PBS suggest that it will extend protections to certain categories of undocumented immigrants, including potentially the spouses of U.S. citizens and the Dreamers (DACA recipients, people who came to the U.S. as children).
The Biden White House might be considering expanding "parole in place" to let people adjust their status (become lawful permanent residents, or “green card” holders) without having to leave the U.S., making it possible for them to receive a work permit and a green card here.
Right now, many people like this must go through a much more complicated and inefficient process known to immigration attorneys as the “waiver and consular processing” path. The waivers are taking 4-5 years for USCIS to adjudicate currently, and the remaining process requires applicants to schedule an interview in their home country—even if they’ve been living in the United States for many years—before being granted their status. In total, this can sometimes take nearly a full decade to complete.
If the Biden Administration does update the “parole-in-place” rules to permit spouses of American citizens to qualify for the program, it would cut out the bloated administrative waste created during the 8-10 year consular process and waiver path, and also be much, much cheaper for Americans with immigrant relatives.
This would be a huge victory for Americans, and I hope that you’ll contact the White House to voice your support for the expanded parole in place program.

Message to the White House about Parole in Place for Spouses of American Citizens:
I believe that the president is considering a policy of Parole-in-Place for the spouses of U.S. citizens. This would be an amazing policy that would promote efficiency of our immigration procedures, as many spouses eligible for this program would otherwise have to go through the burdensome consular process with a waiver, which is a highly inefficient process that takes more than 5 years at present. It would alleviate a great burden on USCIS, allowing the agency to focus on other more pressing matters. It would improve stability for Americans with immigrant spouses. I hope that President Biden will approve this parole-in-place program for spouses of U.S. citizen program.
