EOIR Respondent Access Portal

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is the agency within the Department of Justice that handles immigration court cases. Until recently, respondents (persons in removal proceedings) did not have online access to their case records. However, the immigration courts recently launched an update to their electronic services, now granting respondents greater access to their case information.

Now, EOIR’s Respondent Access Portal will permit immigrants to:

  • See online case information and documents, including case status and documents, rather than having to go in person to the court.

  • E-file documents (via secure upload), including changes of address, rather than having to go in person to the court’s filing window.

  • Receive e-filings, documents, correspondence from both the immigration court and Board of Immigration Appeals.

  • Store information and documents on the court’s private electronic systems.

This is good news for pro se respondents and will be useful to immigration attorneys when conducting consultations with potential clients, because the client can show the attorney the e-file without the need for the attorney to file an entry of appearance.
